The author is a native of the wonderful state of Texas and calls Houston home, but my mailing address is ""overseas."" I spent over twenty years in the United States Army, encompassing active duty, Texas National Guard, and Army Reserve duty. I have two children: a boy and a girl, both of whom have endured the college experience. I am an avid traveler who enjoys immersing herself in other cultures. I've lived in the Philippines, Korea, Germany, Kuwait, and the Dominican Republic, as well as most recently in Colombia. I have always been passionate about learning and exploring new places. My military background has given me a unique perspective on the world, and I am grateful for the opportunities it has afforded me. Even though I was not involved in the process, as a parent, I am proud of my children's achievements in overcoming the difficulties of college. Traveling has been a significant part of my life, and I continue to seek out new experiences and connections with people from all walks of life. My time spent living in various countries has enriched my understanding of different cultures and broadened my worldview. I am on sabbatical leave from DeVry College. My objective in attending college is to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities of American society, the internal and external battles for its soul, and the inclination toward self-destruction that defines it.
