An Introduction to Bond Graph Modeling with Applications presents a collection of exercises on dynamical systems, modeling and control for university students in the areas of engineering, physics and applied mathematics. We can find several books on bond graphs, but most merely a small set of exercises and, in a few cases, some commands for computer packages like MATLAB or Mathematica. It is difficult to find books with a broad set of solved exercises and proposed exercises with solutions, guiding researchers starting their work with bond graphs, or students who are just beginning their study of the topic. This book aims to fill that gap, and provide a comprehensive, reader-friendly introduction to the Bond Graph modeling tool.

Features

Gives in-depth theoretical background coupled with practical, hands-on instructions. Provides a clear pedagogical framework, with numerous exercises and problems.

Suitable for students and researchers who work with bond graphs: principally such as applied mathematicians, physicist and engineers.

Reviews for An Introduction to Bond Graph Modeling with Applications

The forthcoming book, An Introduction to Bond Graph Modelling with Applications by J. A. Tenreiro Machado and Vitor M. R. Cunha is an excellent university textbook on the bond graph modelling presenting a collection of exercises on dynamical systems, modeling, and control for university students. The book provides a clear pedagogical framework on bond graph modelling, giving in-depth theoretical background coupled with practical, hands-on instructions for mathematical modeling of various dynamical systems, such as hydraulic systems, thermal systems, and electrical systems. We recommend the book for students and researchers who work in applied mathematics, physics, and engineering. - Dimitri Volchenkov, Texas Tech University and author of Grammar Of Complexity: From Mathematics To A Sustainable World The book by Machado and Cunha is really helpful and insightful in the application of the bond graph method for describing dynamical systems. An Introduction to Bond Graph Modelling with Applications takes the reader step by step in a collection of selected examples and exercises. Therefore, the work is an invaluable resource for students and researchers starting work with this fascinating tool. This book will definitely help them in detail understanding of the subject very deeply and will be useful to guide their research. - Santanu Saha Ray, National Institute of Technology, Rourkela This is a very well-written book on bond graph method for discrete and low-degrees of freedom systems. The book has many interesting examples for the readers to practice. The most important part of the book is an introduction of a software platform for implementing the bond graph methods. This will make is easy for the readers to use the bond graph method to model complex dynamic systems. - Jian-Qiao Sun, University of California, Merced and Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Dynamics and Control
