This centennial history of the Economic Society of Australia is much more than an administrative record. It's the story of how the Society has evolved since 1925 against a background of rapidly changing trends in the Australian economics profession and profound changes within the economy. It's also the story of how the Society has addressed its continuing challenges, from ever-present financial strictures to a variable membership base and the splintering of participation from the 1980s onwards. Now, the internationalisation of the Australian university economics profession presents new challenges for the Society. It continues to meet these and has also addressed its long-term gender imbalance with the creation of a highly successful Women in Economics Network. This history shows how the Economic Society of Australia continues to evolve. Using new technologies to replace older models of publishing and physical meetings, the Society, which at one stage, became primarily an academic association now caters to all types of economists.
