This study examines the extent and impact of foreign direct investment in a host of countries. On the fortieth anniversary of its original publica tion, the author has updated the original text, adding a new introduction and concluding chapter to put the work into a contemporary perspective. Professor John H.Dunning is Professor Emeritus of International Business at the University of Reading, UK. He is past President of the International Trade and Finance Association, and of the Academy of International Business. He has published extensively on international direct investment and the multinational enterprise, and on industrial and regional economics.
