Dame Barbara Windsor has been an iconic British actress since her appearance at the age of thirteen in The Belles of St Trinians. She shot to fame and into the nation's hearts through her on-screen performances in nine Carry On films and for playing Peggy Mitchell in the BBC One soap EastEnders. She joined the cast of EastEnders in 1994 and won the 1999 British Soap Award for Best Actress. She would appear in the show for the next 22 years. After leaving Eastenders in 2016, Barbara Windsor became an Alzheimer's Society ambassador and campaigned parliament for better care for dementia patients until her death in 2020.
