Dr. Mason is a pioneer in Artificial Intelligence. As an AI research scientist and engineer at U.C. Berkeley, NASA and Stanford University, she has made contributions to software agents, robotics and applied positive psychology. Among her many endeavors, she created a computer science department in the Australian Outback (noted in the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California), developed RADIO AI, one of the first online AI Education resources for the general public, and pioneered the new field of Artificial Compassion - a fusion of positive psychology, human science and various technologies, including AI. She has served on a variety of committees, including the IEEE committee for Children's Privacy and Data Protection, the White House task force to prevent rape on college campuses, and was the CTO of Knightsbridge Castle, a security and identity theft start-up in Woodside, California. During the pandemic, she participated in the U.K's Nation Health Systems AI Lab, occasionally conducting research in patent cases. Her first book, AI and the Environment (sold in 31 countries), documents the first efforts of Environmental Scientists to apply AI to practical and theoretical issues, and in 2024, it was considered by the Environment Law Journal to still be the best resource on applying AI to complex real world problems related to sustainability and the planet. Mr. Curt Hall is a seasoned tech analyst, researcher, and editor who's been tracking the front lines of digital innovation for over two decades. His work dives deep into AI, machine learning, NLP, big data, and the systems shaping how we live and decide. A longtime contributor to the Cutter Consortium (an Arthur D. Little Community) and editor of multiple tech strategy journals, Curt brings sharp insight and a grounded perspective to the fast-moving world of algorithmic systems and digital ethics.
The book nudges policymakers, tech developers and, well, every one of us, to consider a future where technology serves humanity and not the other way around. It's thought-provoking to say the least. Mason and Halls' work isn't just about algorithms. It's about embedding Ancient ethical wisdom into the very fabric of our digital world. That's profound. It asks us to not just consume technology but to mold it to reflect the best of our shared values. -Richard Price, CEO, Academia
