Pushkin's literary reputation was formed largely due to the popularity of his poems, and each new poem became the subject of heated debate and an occasion to discuss pressing issues of Russian literature. In 1835, the poet published a two-volume 'Poems and Tales of Alexander Pushkin', which included all completed poems that were awarded the highest permission. In this collection, the composition of Pushkin's lifetime edition is supplemented by the poem The Bronze Horseman, which was not missed by the highest censorship.
