African Friends and Money Matters started as notes for Westerners when they traveled and worked in Africa by providing a lens to understand customs and cultures outside of their home culture. David Maranz worked with SIL International, living in Cameroon, Senegal, and several other countries in Africa from 1975 to 1998. He worked in community development, anthropology, administration, and as an international anthropology consultant. He has a PhD in International Development. His earlier book, Peace is Everything, examines the worldview and religious context of the people in the Senegambia region of West Africa.
