Pawan Kumar Rakesh is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand in Srinagar, Garhwal, India. He has previously served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering (2013–2016) and as Associate Dean (Faculty Welfare) from 2016 to 2020. During his tenure at this growing institution, he has gained extensive experience in lab development, academic structuring, and student welfare. Since 2018, he has also been the coordinator of the Design Innovation Center at NIT Uttarakhand. Dr. Rakesh has authored 90 articles published in esteemed international and national journals and conferences. Additionally, he has edited six books. Rakesh has supervised four PhD and six MTech students and was honored with the Best Faculty Award in 2023. Pravin Kumar is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology in Shenzhen, China. Previously, he worked at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India as a Postdoctoral Researcher. He holds a PhD in Additive Manufacturing from the Indian Institute of Technology Indore, where he has developed theoretical modes to predict the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of the metallic parts manufactured by Micro-Plasma Transferred Arc Additive Manufacturing. He received his M.Tech in the specialization of Manufacturing Technology from National Institute of Technology Agartala and his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University. He has an excellent publication record of his work which includes the formulation of analytical models, investigation of dimensional and geometrical tolerances, surface roughness, high-temperature oxidation behaviour, and post-processing of AM parts. His research interests include metal additive manufacturing, directed energy deposition, wire and arc additive manufacturing, and non-conventional machining processes.
