This is my story - a journey from South Africa to London, and then on to living and working with HIV in Sydney, San Francisco, Singapore, and Southeast Asia from the early 1980s through to 2015. It is a reflection of my determination to pursue prevention programs and help save lives. In 2006, worried about rising prevalence rates of AIDS in the Asia Pacific region, the Australian Government engaged me to help develop a private sector response across the region. This resulted in the creation and development of a network of national business coalitions, financed by the private sector and focusing on workplace education. A small number of countries, like Singapore, already had coalitions that joined the regional network. That's how I met Susie Solomon, the dynamic founder of the Singapore Business Coalition on AIDS. We also developed a regional training role for Susie to assist new coalitions establish their workplace programs.Susie and I are still friends nearly twenty years later.
