""A B C Doxology"" (doxology, meaning a short hymn of praise), is an alliterated alphabet intertwined with Psalm 148, ornamented with creatures expressing, each in turn, their awe toward each other and their Maker who vows to preserve them. Altogether, they recall and rejoice in the promise of God that he will send a Deliverer, and that His universe will never be destroyed.

This book is for either children or adults, with curious words and animals, flowers, birds, minerals, and other objects corresponding to each letter. Although an alphabet picture-book, the vocabulary and images are appropriate for advanced readers for a few minutes of respite. Non-readers naturally respond to the images in the book with 'point-to' games.

The appendix features a list of visual devices, many used to design the letter paintings, which may be of interest to artists and designers.

The book's font, Fifteen 36, was created by Graham Blakelock of York, England, who was inspired by 16th century Roman book texts.

The original paintings featured in the book were hand-painted by the artist with gouache.

Reviews for A B C Doxology

""Song for the Maker is founded on Psalm 148, a call for all of God's creation to join in a chorus of praise for the wonder of his works - and the book accomplishes this so well with a richness of vocabulary and beautiful illustrations. The book is formatted as an ABC with illustrations that are full-page and beautifully painted. On the opposing page, there is a short alliterative description of the picture, which ends with a line of the psalm. The psalm progresses through the book with each subsequent letter of the alphabet. The language used in the description is extensive and draws you to the picture to identify the different elements within. How this book affected me: Song for the Maker caused me to reflect on the diversity and complexity of God's creation and how often we only see and hear a small fraction of what exists. It challenged me to pause and enjoy the detail. Who would like this book?...In my opinion, this is primarily a coffee table book for adults who appreciate art and richly crafted poems. It could also be read to younger children who will enjoy finding the different elements in the pictures and a book for those older children who will enjoy taking on the challenge of finding the meaning of some of the more obscure words in the descriptions. Carrie's illustrations of the letters are thoughtful, warm and challenging-the Psalm captures the majesty of God's creation and love. I chose to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion."" -Shirley Alarie, Author/Writer/Christian, and Children's Book Reviewer ""Those of us who work in the digital age don't know how good we have it. I have tremendous respect for traditional artists who use traditional tools - and Carrie Ellen Mohn is one of those wonderful folks...As you might have noticed, I'm rather enamored of Carrie's lovely artwork. The hand lettering is impressive, and there's just a lovely finesse about every page. This is the kind of book that you want to own in print."" - Marie T. Story, children's book author ""A Rare Gem. This book offers a unique interpretation of Psalm 148 by combining enchanting texts with beautiful artwork. For each letter of the Alphabet, there is a little non-rhyming poem. Each poem combines plants, animals, and gems that start with that letter. The vocabulary used for the poems in impressive and it integrates beautifully with the biblical texts. The artwork looks like stained glass windows, which contribute another layer to the theme. Reading the poems and looking at the pictures induced a surreal yet relaxing feel which was exactly what I needed at the end of a stressful day."" - Hagit R. Oron, children's book author
