ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- My grandma gave me a lovely book when I was seven, full of wise words of advice that I’ve treasured ever since. This sweet and gentle book reminds me of it very much! With quiet, pastel-coloured illustrations and simple sentences, it imparts life lessons in a kindly and tender way, from knowing “how to make a friend – and how to be one” to knowing “which way is north – which way is up – and which way is home.” A book to pass on to youngsters aged 5-8.  Lindy

From how to make a friend – and be one – standing up for yourself, the importance of looking up ... award-winning author Meg McKinlay provides the seeds of good advice, and Nicky Johnston's illustrations prove to be the perfect examples, all wrapped up in a luxury hardback gift edition.

"Meg McKinlay grew up in Bendigo, Victoria, in a book-loving, TV- and car-free household. On the long and winding path to becoming a children’s writer, she has worked a variety of jobs including swim instructor, tour guide, translator and teacher. These days, she lives with her family near the ocean in Fremantle and divides her time between teaching and writing, a balance that swings wildly between chaos and calm. Nicky Johnston is an award-winning author and illustrator of over thirty books for children including CBCA 2023 Shortlisted book Jørn’s Magnificent Imagination, 2022 Honour book Amira’s Suitcase and 2022 Speech Pathology book of the Year The Incredibly Busy Mind of Bowen Batholomew Crisp. Nicky’s illustration style is often described as whimsical, playful, narrative, emotive and colourful. She loves to work in watercolour, ink, pencils, pastel, and printing techniques. Together with Laura Bunting, she is the co-creator of the ""Coco"" series."
