Josephine Topolanski was born in Paris to a Sephardic Jewish mother and an Ashkenazi Jewish father. Passionate about printmaking, micro-editing, and illustration, her work questions the boundaries between art and science. In 2018, her work was selected for the Illustrators Exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair. She has been intimately linked to the marine world since her childhood in Brittany, France, where she still practices diving and sailing.
"“Conveys the importance of caring for the ocean and its inhabitants….beautiful….dreamy.” — Booklist “Distinctively vivid ... aspiring explorers will be enchanted.” — Kirkus Reviews ""Beautiful illustrations … make this book a dramatic eyeful….readers will definitely feel the grandeur of the underwater world and the smallness of its human guest. We get to learn some facts …. still, it’s Topolanski’s poetic language and beautiful images that will captivate readers….Recommend to kids looking for beautiful, impressionistic books about the ocean.” — Youth Services Book Review "
