Chris Claremont was the guiding force for the X-Men for several decades, writing for all of the top artists on the series- Dave Cockrum, John Byrne, Paul Smith, Marc Silvestri, Jim Lee, and more. He is the X-Men writer. Paul Smith began his comics career in the first issue of Marvel Fanfare and graduated to the main X-Men artist soon after. Besides the X-Men, he has done runs on Doctor Strange, Nexus, and The Golden Age. His creator-owned comic Leave It to Chance was created with noted comics writer James Robinson.
