Poem for the Day was the brainchild of Nicholas Albery, who tragically was killed in a car accident as Poem for the Day Two was getting off the ground. Royalties will go to Nicholas Albery's charitable foundations, under the banner of the Institute for Social Inventions.
Turn to any month in Albery's splendid anthology for immediate proof of its imaginative mix of poems old and new, each with brief, often unexpected details about the author and other poets. A truly international collection, the poems range from Lao-tzu writing in the 6th century BC to a good assortment of moderns, from John Masefield, John Betjeman and Dylan Thomas to thirtysomething writers Kathleen Jamie and Simon Armitage.
