JOANNE SCHWARTZ grew up in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Her first picture book, Our Corner Grocery Store, was a Marilyn Baillie Picture Book Award finalist. Her picture book Town Is by the Sea won the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award and was a Governor General’s Literary Award nominee and a Boston Globe–Horn Book honoree. Joanne has been a children’s librarian for more than thirty years, and she has spent many dreamy days looking at beautiful picture books. She lives in Toronto, Ontario. LAURA BEINGESSNER has loved to draw and paint ever since she was a little girl. She is the illustrator of many books for children, including the multiple award-winning Rachel Carson and Her Book That Changed the World. When Laura is not drawing and painting, she enjoys walking her dog, Ollie, around her local Toronto neighborhood.
""Originally published in 2009, this ode from a child’s perspective to her loving grandparents and their unpretentious shop seems instantly familiar. . . . Every picture in the book stands alone as a work of art and also advances the building of characters. . . . The entire book is delizioso."" —Imaginary Elevators ""A reminder of a different time. . . . It was lovely to visit Nonno Domenico and Nonna Rosa's grocery store, especially as Laura Beingessner captures the very essence of a neighbourhood store and a child's place in it."" —CanLit for Little Canadians
