A photographic celebration of one of nature's most majestic creatures.

Over a five-year period, photographer and filmmaker Jem Cresswell took more than 11 000 images of one of nature's largest mammals

the humpback whale

in Tongan waters.

In Giants, in a powerful combination of photography and storytelling, Cresswell selects the most striking of these images to document the extraordinary bond between a mother and calf, a singing male humpback suspended vertically, upside down, with its head almost touching a steeply sloping reef and much more. Cresswell's body of work offers an intimate glimpse into the lives of these 'gentle giants' as they complete their annual migration to Tonga.
