Shereen El Feki is a writer, broadcaster and academic who started her professional life in medical science, with a PhD in molecular immunology from the University of Cambridge. She is currently Vice-Chair of the UN's Global Commission on HIV and Law and is advising Effat University, Jeddah, on setting up Saudi Arabia's first school of journalism for women. She is half-Egyptian, half-Welsh and grew up in Canada. She currently divides her time between London and Cairo.
