Barry Gifford's book Night People was awarded the Premio Brancati in Italy, and he has been the recipient of awards from PEN, the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Library Association, and the Writers Guild. David Lynch's film based on Wild at Heart won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990, and Gifford co-wrote with Lynch the film Lost Highway, as well as the screenplay City of Ghosts with director Matt Damon. His recent books include Wyoming (named a Best Novel of the Year by the Los Angeles Times), and American Falls: The Collected Short Stories (also available from Turnaround).
Nearly every Gifford story opens a Pandora's Box of uncontainable emotions.... There's no one like Barry Gifford, which is the best reason to read him. Gifford cuts right to the heart of what makes a good novel readable and entertaining: the voices of real people. The way he does it, it's high art.
