WILLIAM M. ""BILL"" GAINES was studying to be a chemistry teacher when his father, M. C. Gaines, died, forcing him suddenly into the business of publishing comic books. By 1950, Bill had ended all the titles previously published by Entertaining Comics and had created new titles like Tales from the Crypt, pioneering a new era in comic books featuring horror and science-fiction stories. These new titles were immediately bestsellers, leading to other publishers flooding the market with similar horror-themed comics. Jack Davis was an American illustrator from Atlanta, Georgia, best known for his work with EC Comics in the 20th century, contributing to a vast array of titles such as Tales from the Crypt, Frontline Combat, Two-Fisted Tales, and Crime SuspenStories. In his later career, David illustrated for Mad magazine and Cracked, among others. Graham Ingles, also known as ""Ghastly"" Graham Ingles for is horror work, was an American illustrator best known for his work in EC Comics in the 20th century. One of the preeminent horror comics artists of the time, his work was immediately recognizable in horror titles such as Tales from the Crypt, The Haunt of Fear, and The Vault of Horror, illustrating numerous classic stories in his time at EC. Reed Crandall was an American illustrator and cartoonist born in Winslow, Indiana, best known for his work on Blackhawk and EC Comics' various horror, crime, and science fiction comics. In 2009, Crandall was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame. Wallace ""Wally"" Wood was a legendary American Comics artist known for his expressive and influential work in various EC Comics titles such as Weird Fantasy and Weird Science, as well as his long-running humor work in MAD magazine. His decades-spanning career included work for comics, advertising, books, and magazines across all genres.
