JOEL SARTORE is an award-winning National Geographic photographer, a regular contributor to National Geographic magazine, and the founder of the National Geographic Photo Ark, a decades-long project to photograph every animal species in human care. By visiting zoos, aquariums, and wildlife centers around the world, to date he has made portraits of more than 17,000 species. Sartore and the Photo Ark have made frequent media appearances, including NPR's Weekend Edition, Today, 60 Minutes, Fresh Air, CBS Sunday Morning, a PBS documentary series called Rare- Creatures of the Photo Ark, and General Hospital.
