Pat Shipman is a freelance writer and Professor of Anthropology at the Pennsylvania State University. Her research has focused on human origins, palaeontology and anthropology, and she has published more than a hundred articles on human evolution. She is the author of The Neandertals, which was a finalist for the Rh ne-Poulenc Prize and was listed as a New York Times notable book of the year; The Wisdom of Bones, which was awarded the Rh ne-Poulenc Prize; Taking Wing; and The Man Who Found the Missing Link, named as a notable book of the year by the Los Angeles Times. She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the Royal Geographical Society.
