The sequel to the highly successful A Year in Provence includes tales of truffle-hunting Vietnamese pigs, the inebriates' history of pastis and gourmet competitions, all jostling for prominence. But despite the continuing affection and humour in these views of Provence through the eyes of a middle-aged Englishman, there is something slightly laboured about this offering, and it lacks the spontaneous sparkle of its predecessor.
