Susannah Clapp worked as an editor and reader at Jonathan Cape. She helped to found the London Review of Books, where she was assistant editor for several years. She is currently the theatre critic of the Observer and a regular broadcaster on BBC Radio.
Bruce Chatwin, author of In Patagonia and The Songlines, was a remarkable writer and a florid character. He liked to try on roles and try out people and, in the course of a career that covered art expert, journalist and novelist, he met and befriended many famous modern literary figures. He died in 1989. Clapp, editor and friend, has written an affectionate account of a spellbinding figure. (Kirkus UK)
