Samuel Pepys features prominently in this evocation of life during the time of Cromwell and the Restoration, as seen through the eyes of Jeremiah (Jem) Mount. We follow the ambitious Jem's fortunes as he embarks on amorous adventures, takes up a variety of occupations and vies for advancement with Pepys. An enjoyable, witty novel. (Kirkus UK)
