OUR ONLINE STORE IS OPEN, but...

UPDATE 30 MARCH 2020: OUR SHOP DOORS HAVE TEMPORARILY CLOSED FROM MONDAY 30 MARCH, but you can still order books for delivery. Our online and phone/email orders teams are still getting your orders out the door as fast as possible.
 
In Stock items will ship immediately, however items that need to come in from our suppliers may be subject to disruption, so your patience is appreciated.

This is just for the period of the crisis. After that, like all affected businesses, we hope to stagger out of the bunker, shielding our eyes from the glare, and begin putting books into the hands of our customers once more.

Our shop doors have closed temporarily from Monday 30 March - but you can still order books for delivery!

We have made the difficult decision to close our physical stores at 131 York Street - Abbey’s Bookshop, Language Book Centre and GALAXY Bookshop - from Monday 30 March.

However, we will continue to operate the business from behind closed doors Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm, so please continue to shop with us! Place your orders online or email orders@abbeys.com.au or simply give us a call on 02 9264 3111.

We know many of you will be very disappointed with this move, and we are too. Just yesterday we learned that we have been awarded the Leading Edge Metro Bookstore of the Year, and one of our customers was kind enough to say: “One of my favourite happy places in the whole world! Excellence is never an accident. Congratulations Abbey’s.” It’s always lovely to receive such high praise and to feel our efforts are appreciated.

However, we do believe closing the shop is the right decision at this point, balancing the conflicting priorities of continuing to supply books, while also providing a safe environment for our staff and customers. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes to anyone who prefers to come in and browse – which is most of us! – but please be assured that we will endeavour to ship all orders as fast as humanly possible and our service levels will remain as high as ever. Just not in person.

I’m happy to say we upgraded our website late last year, so at least your online shopping experience should be a bit easier and more enjoyable than it was previously. If you have any difficulties at all in navigating the site, please just call us for help.
