"Reviews via Amazon Paperback ""Big George"" Afutu Jr. 5.0 out of 5 stars Everything needed to know for Modern Street Survival! Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2020 Verified Purchase This book contains everything that a non-martial artist needs to review and practice with a competent training partner for his/her basic self-defense needs. All essential topics are covered, from kidnap and rape scenarios, to multiple opponents, to ""square-offs"" against 1 opponent to knife and firearm defense. The information, based on 24 years of my personal Martial Arts study and experience as well as my personal Street confrontations are very good, except for the weapons defense, which seem to me to be theoretical and not ""battle-tested"" by the author himself. I like that the book's knowledge is derived from various Martial Arts that have been proven effective in the Street. Also, there is no guarantee of implementing a successful defense against any armed attacker since some armed attackers are very ""experienced"" with violence and crime. Overall, this is an excellent book for a non-martial artist or a novice to Martial Arts and Self Defense since an experienced Martial Artist will find the techniques very basic, especially if he practices a combatives-based Martial Art like Krav Maga, JKD or Hapkido. Nevertheless, even an experienced practicioner of ""The Arts"" needs to constantly and regularly review the basics of Modern Street Survival. He also has crime and threat avoidance in this book too, which is the essence of Self Protection: avoiding the assault altogether. Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2020 This book is super short and to the point. The author has a brief introductory section talking about the basic principles and practices of self-defense. He outlines a way to best learn the variety of techniques shared in the book. The second section looks at basic self-defense moves while the third section details advanced techniques, including how to deal with multiple attackers and those with weapons. The book has been illustrated with simple line drawings, though some were hard to actually figure out what precisely was going on or what you should do. If you have been attacked, some illustrations may be disturbing to you. But if you have an interest in self-defense or are considering taking a class, this book could help you understand more of what to do or prepare you for another situation (heaven forbid) or a class."
