George Bradshaw was known for producing a very successful and long-running timetable for the British railway network. When tourism by rail became all the rage, Mr Bradshaw seized on the opportunity to produce the first national tourist guide specifically organised around rail journeys.
"SADDLEWORTH ~ This place, situated in the centre of a large woollen cotton district, has a population of 18,631 some of whom are stockingers. What the rugged land of the moorlands is may be well seen from here."
Just reading through the township names, out loud, is as good as any form of meditation you may choose.
Beautifully bound in a warm chocolate brown leather hardback binding with gold foil lettering, printed on the finest paper, this collectible is a faithful facsimile of the actual book (which is now extremely rare).
Sure, take along your Lonely Planet guide, but throw a little spice into your journey by finding your way about England's railways with this gem.
