Herman Shugart is professor emeritus of natural history at the University of Virginia. Peter White is professor emeritus of biology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Shugart and White are coauthors of The World Atlas of Trees and Forests (Princeton). Tugce Okay is a natural history illustrator who works primarily with watercolors. Her work has appeared in many books and magazines.
