The White-bellied Heron is one of the most endangered birds in all the world. It lives in riverine and wetland habitats in Bhutan, Northeast India, Myanmar and China. This bird is very sensitive to changes in its habitat. Any strange noises or activity will cause it to fly away and search for a more peaceful stretch of river. The construction of dams, the cutting of trees, and hunting and trapping by humans are all threats to this species. Man-caused flooding of water bodies also makes it harder for these birds to find and catch fish. No one knows for sure how many White-bellied Herons remain, but there are perhaps only between 50 and 250 birds left in the entire world. Many people are working to save this species. You can help by learning more about the White-bellied Heron and sharing what you learn with family and friends.

We hope this book will serve as an inspiration to help protect the White-bellied Heron and all of Bhutan's wildlife and wild places.

"Ever since she was a little girl, Marta Curti loved to write. As a child growing up in Los Angeles, California she spent a lot of time writing poetry, stories and songs. She wrote her first book for children when she was studying Creative Writing at Pepperdine University. After graduating with an MA in Education, she went on to work as a teacher, an environmental educator and a biologist. She currently works for a conservation organization that protects birds of prey and she also leads birdwatching tours around the world. Through all her jobs and travels, Marta has never stopped writing. Suraj Limbu is a 38-year-old contemporary artist who works as an illustrator and graphic designer. He began sketching and painting early as a 15-year-old student. What began as a hobby has now flourished into a full-blown career. In his words, ""Art is an expression of personal experiences and thought of an artist. No matter what the quality of our talent, as long as we are honest to our experiences, it is an art form - be it sketching, painting or any other works associated with art."" Later he has begun digital illustration and painting of landscapes, humans, birds and other animals.Suraj Limbu can be contacted at: E-mail: surajlmb565@gmail.com"
