Nanomedicine-Based Approaches for the Treatment of Dementia explores a wide range of promising approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of dementia. The book begins with introductory sections on dementia and brain ailments that are followed by further chapters that discuss detailed information about challenges of drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier as well as the current status. This book helps readers design and develop novel drug delivery systems and devices for the treatment of dementia that take advantage of recent advances in nanomedical technologies.

Numerous drug delivery systems have been developed recently for dementia. Unfortunately, most of them are ineffective since dementia is not a single disease. It is an umbrella term for several neurodegenerative conditions which alter brain functions. Due to this, there is an urgent need for innovative technologies/nano drug delivery systems to improve the targeting and delivery of therapeutic as well as diagnostic agents specifically for treating dementia.

Dr. Umesh Gupta, currently working as Assistant Professor at Department of Pharmacy, Central University of Rajasthan, India, did his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Dr. H. S. Gour University, India under the mentorship of Prof. NK Jain. He has recently been awarded for “DAAD Research Stays for Academics and Scientists” at Leibniz-institut fur Polymerforschung Dresden, Germany. He has the past experience of Research Scientist at Ranbaxy Research Laboratories, India and Post-Doctoral Research Associate at South Dakota State University, USA. HE is also recipient of Young Scientist Award by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India as well as Ranbaxy Science Scholar Award 2008 by Ranbaxy Research Laboratories, India. He has been awarded more than 3-4 times the overseas travel award by different funding agencies of Indian government to share and present his research at international platform in countries like Germany, USA and Singapore etc. He has more than ten years of research and academic experience. The area of research is mainly focused on dendrimer mediated drug delivery, solubilization and targeting. His laboratory equally focuses on effective brain delivery through nanotechnological carriers such as polymeric micelles, nanoparticles and dendrimers. He has more than 48 publications and seven book chapters to his credit with total citations of more than 2300 (h index of 23 as per Google Scholar). Dr. Prashant Kesharwani is presently working as an assistant professor at Department of Pharmaceutics, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India. He is also a receipt of several prestigious international and national awards such as “USERN Laureate 2023” and “SERB-Ramanujan fellowship”. Dr. Kesharwani have academic, industrial and research experience at international level (including USA, Malaysia and India). An overarching goal of his current research is the development of nano-engineered drug delivery systems for various diseases. Dr. Kesharwani has more than 300 international publications in well reputed journals and 23 published international books. His h-index is 76 and i-10 index is 305 (on May 2024). He is a recipient of several internationally acclaimed awards and research funding from various funding bodies. He has presented many invited talks and oral presentations at prestigious scientific peer-conferences, received international acclaims and awards for research contribution, supervised students/junior researchers and actively participated in outreach and scientific dissemination for the service of wider community.
