Reviews for Latin: A Clear Guide to Syntax

A thorough, lively and useful survey of the main syntactical structures, with plenty of practice sentences and longer passages for translation into and from Latin. The course will see pupils through GCSE and well into the next stage of their language study.' Dr J.B. Katz, Head of Classics, Westminster School -- Dr. J.B. Katz The new edition is as clear and concise as the previous edition but takes things even further which means it can be used for pupils of all ages and abilities. The explanations are sound, the exercises and passages are really useful. It makes teaching Latin language a lot easier!' Claire Le Hur, Head of Classics, Rugby School -- Claire Le Hur Seigel's explanations are clear and concise, and makes the book a valuable vade-mecum, as well as an excellent source of material, for those pupils who already have some two years of Latin behind them and who want to secure their grasp of syntax, extend their vocabulary and improve their translation skills.' Stephen Baldock, former High Master, St Paul's School, London -- Stephen Baldock Back cover This updated and revised version of Mike Seigel''s book meets many classroom needs... there is something for everyone, from the students who have just a couple of years Latin under their belts to those entering the Sixth Form, and from the teachers who wants to dip in for a translation exercise to those who want a systematic course of syntax teaching expounded in a direct style.' T.E.W. Hawkins, Head of Classics, Eton College -- T.E.W Hawkins 'This is a book of very great value and will be eagerly received by classicists... Its great virtues are lucidity of explanation, utterly authentic 'scholarship-style' questions appended to the passages... and sheer scope of relevant practice delivered.' Chris Jackson, Head of Classics, King's College School, London 'The new edition is as clear and concise as the previous edition but takes things even further which means it can be used for pupils of all ages and abilities. The explanations are sound, the exercises and passages are really useful. It makes teaching Latin language a lot easier!' Claire Le Hur, Head of Classics, Rugby School 'Mike Seigel's book, building on the strengths of its previous edition, gives an accessible and succinct account of Latin syntax which will be very useful to students from pre-GCSE to A-level.' John Taylor, Head of Classics, Tonbridge School 'Senior School departments will fall hungrily upon the book to breach holes sometimes left by the Cambridge Latin course. Scholarship Schools could have no better preparation... this is a book of very great value and will be eagerly received by classicists. It has all the rigour and thoroughness of a Wilding. Its great virtues are lucidity of explanation, utterly authentic 'scholarship-style' questions appended to the passages... and sheer scope of relevant practice delivered.' Chris Jackson, Head of Classics, King's College School, London 'Mr. Seigel's aim is to expound and illustrate all the basic Latin constructions. His explanations are clear and concise, and makes the book a valuable vade-mecum, as well as an excellent source of material, for those pupils who already have some two years of Latin behind them and who want to secure their grasp of syntax, extend their vocabulary and improve their translation skills.' Stephen Baldock, former High Master, St Paul's School, London
