Emerging Technologies in Applied and Environmental Microbiology describes various problems and solutions that arise in applied and environmental microbiology using scientific technologies. The book summarizes the main omic-based methods currently used to characterize environmental microorganisms, as well as approaches to analyzing and interpreting the bio information generated by experimentally based studies. Sections explore the current understanding of bacterial signaling through examples of communication systems that include signaling in gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, along with discussions on how microorganisms interact with each other, with other organisms, and with the environment.

In addition, this comprehensive resource highlights the importance of various emerging technologies for cleaning up pollution in the environment caused by human activities. Final sections assess the potential application of several existing, applied and environmental microbiological techniques and introduces new and emerging technologies through applied aspects.

Dr. Maulin P. Shah is Chief Scientist and Head of the Industrial Waste Water Research Lab, Division of Applied and Environmental Microbiology Lab at Enviro Technology Ltd., Ankleshwar, Gujarat, India. His work focuses on the impact of industrial pollution on the microbial diversity of wastewater following cultivation-dependent and cultivation-independent analysis. His major work involves isolation, screening, identification, and genetically engineering high-impact microbes for the degradation of hazardous materials. His research interests include biological wastewater treatment, environmental microbiology, biodegradation, bioremediation, and phytoremediation of environmental pollutants from industrial wastewaters. B R M Vyas is an Environmental Microbiologist, having an experience of almost 30 years in teaching and research. He has published a good number of research articles in very high-impact journals, such as Applied & Environmental Microbiology (American Society of Microbiology), as well as others with Springer, Wiley, Elsevier. He has guided 16 PhD students in the field of applied and environmental microbiology
