We're giving Abbey's Cardholders the chance to win a seat at the court of Thomas. And a jovial, envigorating evening it is sure to be. Anyone who has seen Thomas speak at writers festivals or who saw his recent appearance on Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight will know that Thomas enjoys a laugh and has many a tale to tell. In fact, you can warm-up for your banter with Thomas by listening to his lively chat with Michael Cathcart on ABC Radio National's Books and Arts Daily.
The feast takes place on Sunday 1 July at Bannisters in the seaside hamlet of Mollymook, 3 hours south of Sydney. Bannisters is a unique boutique hotel with a wonderful clifftop location above beautiful Mollymook Beach. The award-winning restaurant has the British globe-trotting chef Rick Stein as Chef de Cuisine, working his wonders with our seafood. Have a browse of Bannisters Mollymook.
This will be a fascinating dinner with one of Australia's literary luminaries. Thomas is best known for novels such as Schindler's Ark, a Booker Prize winner adapted to screen in Spielberg's Schindler's List, and the Booker nominated The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, also an acclaimed film adaptation.
But the biggest news is that Mr Keneally has delivered his newest novel to the shelves at Abbey's. Well, not personally - he's a very busy man! The Daughters of Mars is one of the featured titles above.
WHAT YOU CAN WIN One ticket to the dinner ($95) on Sunday 1 July and accommodation that night in an Ocean Deluxe room (twin share $250), plus a piping hot breakfast ($20) the following morning. The total prize package worth $365 will be drawn on Friday 15 June and the winner will be notified by phone and email.
HOW TO ENTER The competition closes 5pm 14 June. Send an email to abbeysnewsletters@abbeys.com.au with your name, address and the answer to this question:
What is the name of the Red Cross hospital ship on which the Durance sisters serve in The Daughters of Mars?
You must be an Abbey's Cardholder to enter. To become a cardholder, simply ask in the shop or phone 02 9264 3111 or email books@abbeys.com.au to join quickly and easily. You can still join after you've entered the competition - just make sure you join before 14 June.
Good luck!
