Miles Franklin Award 2016

Posted April 05, 2016

Miles Franklin Literary Award

The winner was announced at the Melbourne Writers Festival on 26 August.

State Library of NSW Mitchell librarian Richard Neville said on behalf of the judging panel, Patrić’s novel ‘delivers a powerful and raw account of the migrant experience in Australia, exploring the damages of war, and the possibility of redemptive love, in the context of debilitating emotional and physical dislocation’. ‘It is a novel of compassion and challenge, its driving, urgent narrative envelops the reader in one of the great issues of our time’.

The judging panel comprises:

- Richard Neville;

- journalist and columnist for the Australian Murray Waldren;

- Abbey's Bookshop bookseller Lindy Jones;

- biographer, book historian, publishing editor and Queensland Writers Centre founding chair Craig Munro;

- emeritus professor Susan Sheridan.

Last year’s award was presented to Sofie Laguna for The Eye of the Sheep.
