Waru the green sea turtle hatches from her egg in the sand and quickly heads for the safety of the ocean. She grows up healthy and strong on the beautiful Great Barrier Reef, and she always makes sure to avoid humans and sharks. But when the time comes for Waru to lay her own eggs, she can’t find anywhere safe – the beach she remembers has been replaced by rows of big houses. Thankfully, she’s got a surprising sea friend to help her.

A beautifully illustrated, educational children’s book about Australian wildlife and the importance of environmental protection.

SUPPORTED BY WWF-Australia

Did you know that as few as 1 in 1000 green sea turtle hatchlings survive to adulthood, meaning it can take decades to produce the next generation?

Sadly, the green sea turtle population is facing decline. As turtles travel great distances, they are at risk from numerous threats at various stages in their life including from climate change, loss of nesting and feeding habitats, fishery-related deaths, and coastal development and pollution.

But thankfully there is hope! WWF-Australia are focussed on bringing the most critical green sea turtle population back from the brink of extinction and protecting the place they call home.
