Reviews for Walk 2.0: More Machine Quilting with Your Walking Foot

If you feel more comfortable using a walking foot than free motion quilting, this book may be the inspiration you need to tackle your first large quilt. Following on from her first book WALK, this is Jacquie Gering’s second book about quilting with a walking foot and in it she expands on the designs that can be achieved, using this technique. In the first chapter she reminds her readers of the fundamental processes and techniques that are important in order to achieve quality results when stitching with a walking foot. These are covered in more detail in book one WALK but are still sufficient in this book for anyone with some basic experience of machine quilting. As you work your way through the designs in the book you will cover and practice what Jacquie terms THE BIG SIX; Following a marked line, Echoing straight and curved seams, Pointto-point lines with pivoting, Quilting in reverse, Echo quilting with straight and angled turns and finally Arcs, S-curves and free form curves. Most of the designs are based on a grid which is marked onto the quilt top using a series of dots. The grids get more complicated and the designs more intricate as you work your way through the book but using the diagrams for each pattern this can be achieved without too much difficulty. The designs are then quilted on top of the grids using continuous straight lines and curves. Jacquie Gering styles herself as a modern quilter and her designs lend themselves to being worked across the whole top of a quilt, but they can just as successfully be scaled down and used on individual quilt blocks. In the last chapter of the book entitled QUILT AS DESIRED, Jacquie gives advice about which type of design to choose to enhance and finish a quilt, depending on the style of the individual quilt and of course the expertise of the quilter. This book shows there is more to quilting with a walking foot than merely quilting in the ditch, but as Jacquie says practice is imperative to the success of any technique. It is called a walking foot for a reason, take your time, enjoy, and savour every stitch and Walk, don’t run * The Quilters’ Guild *
