The study related to the viruses in animals is known as veterinary virology. It is a sub-field of veterinary medicine. Each animal species is affected by different types of viruses. However, there are also some viruses which can affect different species as well as both vertebrates and invertebrates. Some of the viruses which affect vertebrates are bluetongue virus, rabies virus and rhabdovirus. Bluetongue virus generally infects livestock while rabies virus can infect a large variety of animals such as dogs, monkeys, foxes and bats. Rhabdovirus is single stranded, negative sense RNA virus inheriting six genera that infect a wide variety of animals such as cattle, fish, horse, bovine, etc. Invertebrates such as honey bees are infected by deformed wing virus.
