Meaghann Weaver, MD, MPH, FAAP, is a pediatric oncologist and Chief of the Division of Palliative Care at the Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She works with a wonderful interdisciplinary Hand in Hand team which strives to foster the strengths and graces of children and families in the Heartland. Dr. Weaver’s favorite life moments are spent painting, dancing, cooking, and gardening with her amazing daughter, Bravery. Dr. Weaver dreams of one day returning to Africa with her family. Lori Wiener, PhD, DCSW, is co-director of the Behavioral Science Core and Head of the Psychosocial Support and Research Program at the pediatric oncology branch of the National Cancer Institute. As both a clinician and behavioral scientist, Dr. Wiener has dedicated her career to applying what she has learned from her work with seriously ill children and their families to create new therapeutic, communication, and educational tools. She lives in Annapolis, Maryland with her family and several animals, including a pup named Tessa, a rescue cat named Tupelo, and a pond filled with goldfish, koi and noisy frogs. One of Dr. Wiener’s favorite pastimes is photographing the migration of snow geese.    Mikki Butterley has illustrated everything from greetings cards, to bibles for children, to picture books. She studied graphic design at Blackpool College of Art and Design, after which she worked for a local greeting card company, learning the skills of emboss, die-cut and foil drawings (no computers in those days!), and eventually moved on to freelance illustrating. She then spent 10 years as a senior in-house artist for Hallmark greeting cards before moving back to freelancing to have more time to travel and be with family. Her favorite places to visit are old halls and castles (especially their gardens!), her family’s cabin in England’s Lake District, and anywhere with a jungle. She lives with her family in South Yorkshire, England.

Reviews for The Gift of Gerbert's Feathers

The Gift of Gerbert's Feathers is a delightful story about strength, courage, determination, and love. The reader will be blessed by witnessing how this young gosling with a condition that inevitably takes his life persists each day with amazing grace and admirable dignity. He sets a wonderful example for children who face obstacles such as his, as well as for those who have the normal frustrations of life to cope with. His positivity and bravery radiate through the pages of this exquisitely illustrated picture book. Though the reader may experience a sense of sadness at his loss, a sizable amount of joy will lift the reader to heights above as his final migration to heaven is imagined. ---Seattle Book Review-- (02/04/2020) This is a beautiful book to help children dealing with an illness, for children worried about others with a serious illness. --Talking About Books for Kids--Talk About Books for Kids
