This book provides a comprehensive overview of the key aspects and contracts involved in the process of developing oil and gas projects, with an emphasis on offshore developments.

Project development in oil and gas carries with it numerous unique risks and challenges. By identifying and managing risk through the various contract stages, each stage of the project is seen in perspective and therefore gives readers a better understanding of how that stage was arrived at and what is expected to come later. To do this, the authors use illustrative international case studies from past and current projects, thereby deepening the reader’s understanding and awareness of risk from practical experience, as well as suggesting answers for those who are involved in developing oil and gas projects.

The Application of Contracts in Developing Offshore Oil and Gas Projects is intended for project owners, project managers, contractors, finance managers, commercial managers and lawyers who seek to understand the subject from a practical point of view.

Reviews for The Application of Contracts in Developing Offshore Oil and Gas Projects

The Application of Contracts in Developing Offshore Oil and Gas Projects is helpfully aimed at a broader audience than lawyers alone. Project Owners, Project Managers, Contractors, Finance Managers, Commercial Managers and Engineers also need to understand the legal environment in which they operate, and the particular contractual requirements in relation to such projects, including the regulatory requirements. Such an understanding amongst the responsible consultant team, including the lawyers is material to the development of efficient and safe offshore oil and gas projects. In essence this Book sets out to provide the many categories of professionals tasked with the responsibility of working in the oil and gas industry, with a better understanding of the peculiarities of this most interesting and economically important area of discipline and practice. I am more than confident that this Book will elevate such professionals to a greater level of understanding of the legal and engineering framework within which they are working and will enhance their competence and satisfaction as practitioners. The Honourable Justice Digby, Judge in Charge of the Admiralty List and the Technology, Engineering and Construction List The authors skilfully deliver on their objective of providing insightful, constructive guidance to those involved in negotiating, drafting or performing such contracts. While the book will no doubt be a valuable tool to lawyers practising in the area of international oil and gas projects, its strong practical focus and clear expression ensures its wider relevance and suitability for project owners, contractors, managers and others practising in the field... The Application of Contracts in Developing Offshore Oil and Gas Projects contains a comprehensive, practical, overview of the challenges faced in this area and the tools available to meet such challenges. The authors provide a valuable and insightful resource, particularly for those tasked with the considerable burden of delivering and applying the contractual framework for offshore oil and gas projects. The Hon John Gilmour QC, Barrister (former Judge of the Federal Court of Australia) The Application of Contracts in Developing Offshore Oil and Gas Projects is a highly comprehensive, practical and stimulating read. I have no hesitation in recommending it to all practitioners who work in the area, as well as to all non-lawyers in the oil and gas industry.
