Quantum Hydrodynamics and Turbulence is an essential textbook for graduate students and scientists exploring the intricate physics of superfluid helium and atomic Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). This comprehensive guide, written by leading experts, bridges the gap between classical fluid mechanics and quantum fluids, providing a thorough understanding of the principles that govern quantum hydrodynamics and quantized vortices.

The book begins by laying a strong foundation in the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics and fluid dynamics. It introduces the theoretical frameworks essential for understanding quantum hydrodynamics, such as BEC theory, superfluidity, the two-fluid model, and quantized vortex. A major portion of the book focuses on quantum turbulence, a phenomenon that shares some similarities with classical turbulence but also exhibits unique characteristics. The book delves into the mechanisms by which quantum turbulence is generated and sustained, with a focus on statistical laws, supported by detailed theoretical models and experimental observations. In addition to its rigorous academic content, Quantum Hydrodynamics and Turbulence provides insights into current research trends and future directions in the field. It underscores the interdisciplinary nature of quantum hydrodynamics, encouraging students to explore connections with other areas of physics, mathematics, and engineering.

Quantum Hydrodynamics and Turbulence is an invaluable resource for graduate students and scientists aiming to deepen their understanding of quantum fluids and their turbulent behaviors. Its clear explanations, comprehensive coverage, and practical insights make it an ideal textbook for both coursework and independent study in this rapidly evolving field.

Makoto Tsubota received his PhD from Kyoto University in 1987. Having held academic positions at Kochi University and Tohoku University, he became Professor in Department of Physics at Osaka City University in 2004. In 2022, he became Professor in Department of Physics at Osaka Metropolitan University, where he is currently based. Kenichi Kasamatsu received his PhD from Osaka City University in 2004. Having worked as a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) research fellow and a lecturer at Ishikawa National College of Technology, he has held an academic position in the Department of Physics at Kindai University since 2008. His research interests are in theoretical condensed matter physics, in particular the theory of superfluidity in Bose-condensed systems and non-equilibrium phenomena in ultracold atoms.
