Psychotherapy is not confined to the office: it can be online, virtual, wellness-oriented, flexible, and in service of public wellness. COVID-19 has forever changed the landscape of psychotherapy in these ways, and in ways we have yet to discover.

Practicing psychologist Chant?? D. DeLoach invites readers to reflect on the state of psychotherapy and emerging potentialities forged through crisis. She presents key concepts of telemental health, concierge therapy, and other out-of-office approaches to psychological well-being.

DeLoach provides step-by-step guidance on getting started in telemental health, and points to clinical, ethical, and legal considerations for clinicians working in a digital space and other nontraditional formations. Through interwoven examples and reflective exercises, Dr. DeLoach provides tools to support practitioners as they reimagine their clinical identities to meet the needs of today's clients. This book offers keen insights and learning for all clinicians, from trainees to seasoned practitioners, who are embarking on this new terrain.

Reviews for How We Practice Therapy Now

An incredibly timely, useful, and comprehensive book. This book explores everything from teletherapy practice, the changing face of ethical considerations when using various technologies, multicultural issues, as well as individual therapist identity and values and the impact these factors have on current psychotherapy practice. The book is accurate, engaging, and right on point for today's experienced and psychotherapists-in-training. I would highly recommend this book for clinical supervisors, practitioners, and psychology graduate students.--Katherine Helm, PhD, Director of Graduate Programs in Counseling, Professor of Psychology, Lewis University Her superbly crafted text is at once both accessible and relevant to various mental health practitioners grappling with service, purpose, and meaning. Her insights, grounded in relevant research and blended with sound clinical judgment, are sprinkled with real-world applications that makes for easy reading, understanding, and application. Her pragmatic approach to keeping therapy relevant to increasingly diverse sets of consumers, all while the rules of engagement are undergoing seismic shifting, will help this text continue to be a necessary resource in the coming decade.--Taasogle Daryl Rowe, PhD, Professor Emeritus of Psychology, Graduate School of Education and Psychology, Pepperdine University How We Practice Therapy Now is not only relevant, it is vital. Dr. DeLoach does a skillful job of integrating historical and current thinking about nontraditional delivery of therapy services and the adaptations necessary to respond to the global pandemic. This volume uses a conversational tone, examples, and personal experiences to present technical aspects of virtual and teletherapy, making the content accessible to both novices and experts. Every practitioner should have this book on their shelf.--Eric Holmes, Associate Program Chair, Director: Psychological Trauma Studies Specialization, Antioch University, Los Angeles
