Great Scottish Bike Rides is a guide for cyclists who seek out the hard, the remote and the rewarding.

Dave Barter – author of bestselling guidebook Great British Bike Rides – presents 25 of Scotland's most compelling road cycling routes, linking legendary climbs, long, empty glens and stretches of deserted moorland. These rides demand effort and judgement, where distance, weather and elevation all have a part to play.

Tackle the terrifying Wall of Talla and traverse reservoirs in the Scottish Borders, loop round the remote glens of Lochay and Lyon in the shadow of Ben Lawers in the Highlands, and enjoy views of the Cuillin Ridge from Skye's relentlessly steep and challenging roads. You're safe in the knowledge that Dave has carefully designed each route, so each offers unforgettable climbs, quiet roads and stunning scenery.

Each ride is accompanied by detailed route information, bespoke mapping, an elevation profile and downloadable GPX files – everything you need to ride with confidence.

Answer the call of the Highlands and discover the best road cycling in Scotland.

Dave Barter is an author, entrepreneur and obsessive cyclist. In 2010, he sold his first business and spent the next two years researching and writing the seminal road cycling guidebook Great British Bike Rides. His passion for cycling is laid bare in Obsessive Compulsive Cycling Disorder, a worldwide bestseller on Amazon. Dave has contributed numerous articles to Cycle, Cycling Weekly and Cycling Plus, and has appeared on BBC One’s The One Show. An expert on the life of Tommy Godwin – who held the record for the most miles cycled in a year for over 70 years – Dave set out to resurrect interest in this remarkable endurance feat. This led to the publication of The Year, a richly detailed history of the cycling year record. A veteran of numerous races and sportives, Dave has completed events including L’Étape du Tour, the Fausto Coppi, the Polka Dot Challenge, three Land’s End to John o’ Groats expeditions, the Tour Divide, and many others. Dave lives in Devon with his wife, Helen, and their cat, Jan Åge Fjørtoft. His passion for cycling is evident in a basement full of bicycles and an ongoing quest to discover the very best riding the world has to offer. His latest book is Great Scottish Bike Rides.
