In Panama, alimony cases involve a high volume of claims to insure the support of the beneficiaries, including children under and over 25 years of age if they are studying, spouses, ex-spouses, and parents or grandparents in need. The amount is calculated as a percentage of the obligor's income, although the percentage varies and is not fixed. The process to request it is carried out in family courts or courts for children and adolescents, and in spite of the high numbers of non-compliance reported, coercive measures such as ""corporal constraint"" have been implemented to ensure the effective payment of the pensions owed.

The problem that arises is that, according to the statistics of the judicial body, there is an increase in the non-compliance of duties in the payment of alimony installments in the First Municipal Court of Panama during 2024. In Panama, the reasons for non-compliance in the payment of alimony may vary, but are usually related to social, economic or personal problems. In some cases, non-compliance may be due to an unwillingness or economic problems of the obligor to pay the alimony.
