Asthma is one of the most important chronic disorders in the developed world. Evidence from around the world shows that the prevalence of asthma has increased considerably since 1975, and now affects around 7.2% of the world population. Understanding of the basic mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of asthma has improved dramatically over the past 20 years. Chapters are well designed and the one on management of acute asthma in adults is extremely well done. The descriptions are thorough and complete. Clinical case examples are helpful for readers. Illustrations showing the metered-dose inhaler are useful for clinicians as well as for patients. The chapter on occupational asthma will be very helpful in day-to-day practice. The authors have written a simple guide and clinical reference for asthma. This easy to understand book will find its place on practitioners' desks. (5 stars) -K. P.
