Reviews for Big Book of Intarsia Woodworking: 37 Projects and Expert Techniques for Segmentation and Intarsia

'Whether you're a beginner or have been scrolling for years, you'll be inspired by the unique designs and inspirational stories ' I am giving this book on Intarsia a 4 rating not because it isn't a great book but because most of the patterns I have seen before in scroll saw magazines. (My sunflower fairy door is one example) Filled with over 30 projects, if you aren't a regular purchaser of magazines then this book would be a great resource if you are interested in doing intarsia work. Each project comes with the patterns and how to steps plus, a couple of the projects have an in-depth description, providing detailed intarsia and segmentation tips and strategies. What I really liked about the book is that the projects include ideas for frames as well as the typical designs. The book also has a two-page display of different woods to help select appropriate colours for the projects you are working on. This is a great resource and, with it being in the book, it makes it an easy reference tool. My Ratings of The Book Layout and Appearance: Good balance of photos, how-to instructions, projects. Thumbs Up! Instructions: Clear information and instructions Thumbs Up! Projects Selection: A wide range of easy to complex . Great. Inspiration: Tutorials by Judy Gale Roberts - awesome. Thumbs Up! Wow! What a great book! Intarsia is such a fantastic art and the ideas that are in this book are an excellent example of just how beautiful this art can be. Intarsia is such a wonderful form of woodworking it adds a third dimension to simple scrollsawing. The Big Book is really a big book with 37 projects from a variety of 16 expert scrollers. There are a whole bunch of animals and birds to choose from (my favourite is the Pileated Woodworker) from a puppy in a basket to a majestic elephant. Add to those a whole raft of seasonal treats. The 192 pages are beautifully illustrated and rife with tips and techniques. Selecting the right wood species is most important and this is covered in great detail. Intarsia fans will really enjoy these originals.
