This book provides a link between modern laser-based diagnostics techniques and applied combustion problems. Fundamental understanding of combustion is needed to increase energy efficiency and reduce the pollution from combustion effluent. Laser-based diagnostics provide important tools to probe the harsh, high-temperature, and often high pressure environment of modern combustion systems. A pedagogical overview of the application of laser-based diagnostics to combustion problems is presented in this book. The text provides the active combustion research scientist with an understanding of what information each laser-based technique can provide.
