Born the 13th child of 15 to a middle-class mother and an East End barrow boy, Mary Wood's childhood was a mixture of love and poverty. This encouraged her to develop a natural empathy with the less fortunate and a fascination with social history. Throughout her life Mary has held various posts in office roles, working in the Probation services and bringing up her four children and numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anne's career in the entertainment industry as an actress, and a television and radio presenter spans over 30 years. However, she is best known as a narrator of audiobooks. She has now recorded over 300 books and her gift for character voices and dialects means that she is often first choice for authors having their work recorded.
