An artist, designer, and printmaker working with linoleum and wood cuts, Julie Sola currently owns and operates Fat Crow Press, which specializes in design and illustration in Nashville, TN. Prior to Fat Crow Press, she was a designer and printer at the legendary Hatch Show Print, a 138-year old letterpress poster shop. Her unique hand-made illustrative style and her love for creating art that allows viewers to create their own story led her to write and illustrate children’s books. Her second children’s book, Possum Dreams, will be published by Spring House Press in March 2018.
The genius of Julie Sola's work is both in her talent as an artist and her eye for the true, silly nature of dogs. If you've had a dog, you'll recognize the delightful truth in Run Fast, Milo! -- Betsy Philips, The Nashville Scene One of my favorite people in the world, Julie Sola, has put out a great book for both kids and dog lovers like me! -- Clint Black Being a longtime lover of printmaking, and a fan of Julie Sola's artwork for years, I can't wait to read Run Fast, Milo! with Neo, my five year old son, who will fall in love with Milo! -- Jerry Dale McFadden, The Mavericks Run Fast, Milo! is a wonderfully charming children's book infused with the rare ability to engage the hearts of readers and sleepy lap-listeners alike night after night - and quite possibly generation after generation. In it, author and acclaimed printmaker Julie Sola tells the story of Milo, a delightfully energetic pup chasing a delightfully simple dream. How Sola builds motion and energy into such simple images points to her mastery as an artist developed, in part, during her tenure working the hand-operated presses at Nashville's famous Hatch Show Print. The result is a beautifully simple tale based on her father's real-life dog named - you guessed it! - Milo. -Skip Anderson, The Big Sky/Bozeman Monthly Run Fast Milo! is a unique and original children's picture book with an adventurous personality and an artistic hand-printed style that is unreservedly recommended for family, daycare center, preschool, elementary school, and community library collections. - Children's Bookwatch In Run Fast, Milo!, Julie Sola's signature linocuts capture the ebullience of a happy dog at play. Milo's expressive eyes beseech the reader just the way real dogs' do--irresistibly--and his giddy energy is tangible on every page. Sola's prints bring Milo and friends to life with bold lines and monochromatic backgrounds. All of us can use a little Milo in our day! - Susannah Felts, Writer and Co-founder of The Porch Writer's Collective I love this book and so will you and yours... -- Sir Rod Stewart We were co-workers at Hatch Show Print, in Nashville, moving so fast, eating lunch with one hand and printing with the other. (Reader, don't try this at home). Her favorite line to was Hurrrrry Jim! So I say in return to her, 'Hurrrry Julie and write the follow-up to this book because Run Fast, Milo! needs a companion!' - Jim Sherraden, master printer and curator at Hatch Show Print
