The Red Winter is an impressive debut fantasy by Aussie author Cameron Sullivan, in conversation at GALAXY with author Molly O'Neill.
Zoë from GALAXY said she "had a great deal of fun with this semi-historical fantasy. Great unreliable main character whose actions are dubious, great side narrative to throw the main narrator’s perspective and decisions into doubt, and a fantastic story line that truly hammers home the evil of war."
GALAXY has teamed up with the Sydney SFF Book Club to host Cameron in a Q&A and signing session with Molly O'Neill, author of Greenteeth, and Nightshade and Oak.
Jeremy Szal will discuss Book 3 of the epic space opera The Common Saga with guest MC Richard Swan.
Jeremy Szal burst onto the SF scene with Stormblood, a space opera that delivers depth in both his action-packed future-noir worldbuilding and his thought-provoking characterisation. He followed it it with Blindspace and the Broken Stars collection and now completes the Common Saga with Wolfskin.
Special guest emcee Richard Swan (author of Justice of Kings and Grave Empire) described Stormblood as "A space opera that is both sweeping and taut, with real grit and real heart. This book will kick you in the nuts as you’re lying on the floor.” He will guide you through a deep dive of the Common Saga, its origins and themes over conversation with Jeremy before a book signing session.

For two and a half decades Lindy Jones has dedicated herself to Abbey’s and to the book trade in general. As a senior buyer here she has helped curate and shape the deep and wide range that has become synonymous with Abbey's, and was also our children's books specialist.
Not many people read as much as Lindy. Her countless book reviews for our newsletters and Summer Reading catalogue have guided many readers to their next reading discovery - and her fondness for birding-related titles will not have gone unnoticed by many of our customers.
Her efforts in the book industry go well beyond her role here at Abbey’s with her contributions on judging panels including the Miles Franklin Award (2015-2020) and the Indie Awards since inception. She has also been involved with reading programs such as Don’t Leave Childhood Without... (a children's reading guide across 3 editions). Her voice could be heard each year on ABC Radio 702 Sydney where she joined a panel of booksellers to provide Christmas reading suggestions, including tricky gifting scenarios like 'the uncle who doesn’t read' or 'the toddler who doesn’t like sitting still'.
Lindy was the inaugural Bookseller of the Year 2011 for BookPeople (formerly Australian Booksellers Association) and is widely known across the industry, so many people will miss her input. Her wide-ranging knowledge will certainly be missed at Abbey's and we wish her a well-deserved retirement with plenty of relaxing bird-watching.
